We’ve Secured funding for Life-Changing Mentoring for Devon’s Young People

We are absolutely thrilled to share that we have been awarded £45,000 of funding from BBC Children in Need for the next three years. This is a massive achievement by the team and the perfect validation for the impact the Life Chance Trust is making for young people across Devon.

This funding will enable the charity to continue providing consistent, trauma-informed mentoring support—matching each young person with a dedicated mentor who walks alongside them over 12 weeks to build trust, improve confidence and mental wellbeing, and open the door to new opportunities.

The programme is designed specifically to support the development of confidence and resilience, equipping young people to overcome adversity and make empowered decisions about their futures.

Established in 1927, BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be. They currently fund nearly 1,500 charities and children’s projects to the value of £91.5 million, supporting over 400,000 children.

“We’re thrilled to be funding The Life Chance Trust to provide tailored, 1-to-1 mentoring for young people affected by childhood trauma. These sessions will help individuals increase their aspirations, mental health, confidence, and independence.”

Daniella Lipscombe, Regional Impact Officer, South West at BBC Children in Need

The news was delivered by Pudsey himself, as we gathered for our first celebration and activity event of 2025 at Insanity Gaming Arcade in Newton Abbot — and what a day it was!

Chosen by our young people, the afternoon was packed with retro video games, tasty food, spontaneous dance moves, and nonstop laughter. It was a joy to reconnect with our brilliant young people and dedicated volunteers — some of whom had travelled over an hour just to be there (now that’s dedication!).

And just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better... in walked Pudsey Bear with a surprise that left us speechless!

“This funding from BBC Children in Need will make a lasting impact. It allows us to continue offering our intensive mentoring programmes to more young people across Devon—giving them someone who believes in them, listens without judgment, and helps them build a brighter future.”
