Background
At the age of 22, S had a lot of gaps through his childhood. COVID disrupted his education and he never recovered. His parents’ messy divorce resulted in moving countries and schools a lot, meaning he had a lack of consistency. In the past, he had gone down the route of drugs and had struggled to hold down a job. Successfully recovering from drugs, S wanted a mentor to support him with next steps.

Mentoring
S’s mentoring involved a lot of walking, coffee shops and reflecting. S felt he wanted a job but felt quite stuck in his town, with not many opportunities. He applied for some jobs and with his mentor, talked a lot about wanting to become more independent. His mentor helped him to start thinking about the bigger picture and worked on his strengths and experience. S mentioned that he could speak Polish in one of their sessions, so his mentor ran with that and they looked at jobs abroad.

Where are they now?
S is now working in Turkey as part of an entertainment team, using his skills of speaking fluent Polish, working with Polish and German tourists. With the support of his mentor, they applied for the necessary paperwork and he took the leap and moved. He was desperate to become more independent and go see the world. A message from Turkey is that S is really enjoying his job and is meeting new people every day.
