PHILLIPA CASE STUDY

Studying at sixth form, feeling overwhelmed and wanting someone to talk to. Loves music and cats!

MENTORED
BY CHLOE

Background
Referred by sixth form, Philippa has a diagnosis of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, which has significantly affected her mental health. She reported feeling very overwhelmed, and the morning stiffness associated with her condition often made it difficult to attend sixth form regularly. Philippa described herself as lacking motivation and resilience. She also noted a decrease in physical activity and expressed that her mental health had worsened as her condition deteriorated.

Mentoring
Philippa and her mentor, Chloe, spent much of their time together talking over coffee. Gradually, Philippa began to open up, sharing different aspects of her life.

They bonded over a dinosaur game, which they regularly played together. Chloe supported Philippa in applying for her provisional driving licence, ensuring she had identification and could begin learning to drive. She also extended her time with Philippa to provide continued support as Philippa completed sixth form. Their mentoring sessions often focused on conversation, reflection, and problem-solving.

Where are they now?
Philippa has now completed sixth form, successfully finishing her exams. She aspires to pursue a future career in education, ideally maintaining a connection with her former primary school. In her free time, she enjoys attending music gigs and occasionally performing on stage.

She is currently in a positive relationship and takes great joy in caring for her many cats. Although Philippa continues to face challenges with her wellbeing and finds it difficult to be open on a day-to-day basis, she expressed feeling very happy to have had support to guide her through these challenges.

"My mentoring journey gave me a person to talk to when I don't really have many others"
