Background
Maddy referred herself to Life Chance Trust at a time when she felt she was at her lowest.
She was in a toxic long-distance relationship, travelling frequently to see her boyfriend, and was on long-term sick leave following long COVID, hoping to return to work. Maddy had experienced significant trauma, including a sexual assault that she was still struggling to process. She was also experiencing poor mental health, alongside difficulties with eating and sleeping.
Mentoring
Maddy and her mentor spent the first few sessions building trust and talking through her experiences. She found it valuable to have a safe space where she felt listened to and supported. Although keen to return to work, Maddy recognised that she first needed to focus on her mental health. They met both in person and over the phone when she was out of the county. Together, they completed a referral for additional mental health support and explored practical strategies to improve her wellbeing, including joining a local gym and incorporating regular walks into her routine.
Where are they now?
Maddy is now accessing our Careers Coaching service, as she feels ready to take the next step towards employment. She has left the toxic relationship that was having a significant impact on her mental health and is now focusing on her own wellbeing. She regularly enjoys going to the gym and walking her dog, and plans to take part in future Life Chance Trust activities.
