KIT – CASE STUDY
KIT CASE STUDY
Anxiety being the biggest barrier, a young person who was keen to grow her confidence
MENTORED BY RACHEL
Background
Kit was referred from CAMHS due to difficulties with anxiety. Her mother has experienced her own mental health challenges, and Kit was exposed to domestic violence during her upbringing.
She was previously not in education, employment, or training (NEET) following difficulties with transition, but is now expressing an interest in re-engaging.
Mentoring
Kit’s goals included building her confidence, meeting new people, and developing her ability to use public transport independently.
She began by taking the bus to meet her mentor, reassured by knowing her mentor would be there when she arrived. Repeating this each session helped her quickly gain confidence in using the bus.
The next step was train travel, with her mentor initially accompanying her for support. Gaining access to public transport significantly improved her confidence and independence, and also supported her ability to attend college.
Kit was also keen to expand her social circle, so attending group activities provided a valuable starting point. She attended her first session with support from her mentor and soon began forming connections with other young people.
“Life Chance Trust has supported me with my anxiety. I’ve been able to leave the house and I feel a lot less anxious than before”
Where Are They Now?
Kit is now attending all of our activities and remains actively engaged with Life Chance Trust. She confidently uses the bus independently, enabling her to access local towns with ease. Her next goal is to travel by train to visit a friend in Somerset.
College is going well, and her confidence continues to grow
